Meeting point

Sloth's Territory, in El Tanque, 4 km from downtown La Fortuna. The tour starts at 6:00 am. Arrive a few minutes earlier. It starts and ends at the same entrance.

Getting here

You make your own way. Hotel pickup is not included. Book a taxi the night before if you are staying in town. The pin is on Google Maps and Waze.

The walk

About 1.3 km along the Habana River, easy and mostly flat, over 1.5 to 2 hours. We move slowly. The trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

If it rains

We still go out. Birds keep calling in light rain. A downpour makes them harder to see and the path muddy. Bring a light raincoat. If you cancel, the refund deadlines on this page apply.

Not included

Transportation. The specialist guide, a telescope, backup binoculars, and fruit at the end are included. Bring your own binoculars if you prefer them.

The pace is easy and the stops are for listening as much as looking. The guide carries a telescope and binoculars. You do not need to know birds before you arrive.

The tour lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and costs $60 per person. Children aged 5 to 11 pay $35. Under 5 is free.
