Tour Details
A guided night walk on the same reserve in El Tanque. Frogs and bats are what a normal night looks like. Kinkajous and tarantulas turn up often, not always. Tamanduas and ocelots are uncommon, and a sloth after dark is a bonus, not the promise.

Meeting point
Sloth's Territory, in El Tanque, 4 km from downtown La Fortuna. The night tour starts at 5:30 pm. Arrive a few minutes earlier. It starts and ends at the same entrance.
Getting here
You make your own way. Hotel pickup is not included. From downtown La Fortuna it is a short taxi or drive. Use the pin on Google Maps or Waze, and plan the ride back before you start.
The walk
About 1.3 km along the Habana River, the same easy trail as the daytime visit, walked after dark. We provide a flashlight. Closed-toe shoes matter more at night because you see less of the ground.
What is realistic
Count on frogs and bats. Kinkajous and tarantulas are possible. An ocelot, a tamandua, or a sloth can happen and often does not. We will not tell you that any one animal is waiting.
If it rains
The tour goes ahead. Rain wakes a lot of frogs and makes the trail muddy and darker. Bring a raincoat. If you cancel, the refund deadlines on this page apply.
Not included
Transportation. The guide, a flashlight, and fruit at the end are included.
The guide leads the group with flashlights on an easy trail. The walk lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and suits families. You stay on the path.
Come for the night forest. If the night only produces frogs, bats, and insects, that is still the tour working as it should.
What you might see after dark
Tent-Making Bat
These small bats cut leaves to build shelters that protect them from predators and rain. They usually live in groups and can create several shelters in one night.
